Ana Lucia Cabello, Ph.D.
Ana Lucia completed her bachelor’s degree in chemistry, bacteriology, and parasitology (QBP) at the College of Biology Sciences (FCB) and obtained an MS degree in microbiology from Ensenada Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education (CICESE) in the lab of Dr. Meritxell Riquelme. Currently, Ana Lucia is a Ph.D. candidate in the biomedical sciences program at Texas A&M University. She joined the de Figueiredo lab in 2015. She is interested in host-pathogen interactions that contribute to bacterial pathogenesis. She is studying how virB type IV secretion system effector proteins of Brucella melitensis, a causative agent of the zoonotic disease brucellosis, modulate host secretory functions to sustain bacterial infection.
